The research revealed that mental illness in children usually begins to show symptoms from the age of 12 and get so deteriorates from the age of 18 and begins to influence children’s thoughts, mood, behaviour or discernment of their world. Nevertheless, parents need to be so attentive and ensure that they take preventive precaution from a tender age. The recent global research shows 3.2% of Black youth with suicidal thoughts and 1.4% of attempted suicide. The prevalence of mental ill-health and suicide is higher among Black children. The entire society must stand up against the risk factors triggering the onset of mental disorder in our children

Many things could lead to the development of mental illness in children. Few factor such as brain damages, birth complications, family harsh conditions, mentally ill parents, social media, school exclusion and history of abuse and healthy family functioning.

  As parents, you need to care for your mental health, which will enhance the ability to uphold your children’s mental health and live by example because they look up to you and see you as a mirror. Show them some love, it is a necessity according to Maslow hierarchy of life and needs, give them plenty of love, support, eulogize and never condemn them

Solving the mental health problem involves identifications.

As soon as parents noticed the severe symptoms of mental illness in their children, they are advised to quickly seek help from health professionals for proper diagnosis and they will help in developing a care plan, treatments procedure, medications and other fundamental needs that will help the child manage and recover quickly. Possibly mental health professionals might recommend psychotherapy, which is well-known as talk therapy or behaviour therapy will be provided to the child.

Nevertheless, it is understandable that caring for mentally ill children may be exhausting and frustrating, but delayed and thought of people’s view may put your child’s health at risk if you don’t take a further healing step. Talk to their teachers about their special needs and how they can help you create a welcoming schooling environment for the child. Let the child understand that it is not a big deal and he or she will get over it.  Keep maintaining a supportive environment and also amend your pattern of interacting with your child and make music and fun activities as part of the family important routine. 

Ask questions about their activities, area of interests and ensure you meet with their friends. Do not commit your child’s into the hands of teachers and assisting caregiver, as this could make them vulnerable and in the long run affect the child’s confidence in future, ensure that you engaged in each of their activities. Help them sees good in everyone and their environment. 

Train them to understand that life is equal to two, it can either be good or bad and the will surely encounter difficulties, but they should commit things into the hands of God, and if things do not pull up according to their expectations, they should talk and smile it out.

Make healthy foods available for them, as this can defend their immune system. Provide them with satisfactory shelter according to your ability. Please help them to get an adequate amount of sleep. Engage them in physical activities such as sports and exercise.

However, assessing children with a mental health issue can be so demanding and required inter-personal relationships between the mental health professionals, as well as intra-personal relationships with other multi-agency which must include honesty, appropriate handling of information, and a commitment to work in partnership and with the support of the family.
